A Connecticut native, Layng serves on the boards of both NSAI and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation. Layng serves on NSAI's Legislative Committee and has lobbied in Washington, D.C. His songwriting credits include Trisha Yearwood’s “I Wanna Go Too Far,” Kathy Mattea’s “Maybe She’s Human,” Pam Tillis’ “I Was Blown Away,” Reba McEntire’s “The Greatest Man I Never Knew,” Elvis Presley’s million-seller “Way Down,” the Pointer Sisters’ “Should I Do It,” Christy Lane’s “I’m Gonna Love You Anyway” and Billy “Crash” Craddock’s “Rub It In” (Glade’s long-running television jingle “Plug It In”).
