WINNING LYRICS FOR LYRIC-ONLY CATEGORY

It seems like yesterday,
when we were standing there.
sunshine on our faces,
shadows without a care.

I watched his every move,
my daddy next to me.
playin ball and catchin’ fish,
a fading memory.

Chorus:
He taught me how to listen and how to lend a hand. He taught me to always work hard, no matter the demand.
He taught me how to cast a line, and to be a stand up guy....but he never did teach me, how to say goodbye.

Growing up to be like him,
was all I hoped to do.
I watched him care for mama,
so their love always grew.

But life it just ain’t fair sometimes,
darn sure wish I could pack.
And load up all those memories,
And live ‘em all right back.

Chorus:
He taught me how to listen and how to lend a hand. He taught me to always work hard, no matter the demand.
He taught me how to cast a line, and to be a stand up guy....but he never did teach me, how to say goodbye.

Bridge:
Daddy’s sick and Im all grown, guess that was God’s design.
But he’s still right there teachin’, in all he left behind.

My kids and his ol’ tackle box,
they found a worn sketched note.
Showin’ how to rig a line,
in them words that he wrote.

I guess we'll never know the hour,
we’ll be called to cast away.
“I’m so proud of you son”,
he’ll tell me on the other side someday.

He taught me how to listen and how to lend a hand. He taught me to always work hard, no matter the demand.
He taught me how to cast a line, and to be a stand up guy....but he never did teach me, how to say goodbye.
Thank you for teaching me to live, before you say goodbye.
