April 2021 Exercises

1. STUDY A SONGWRITER
Select 2-3 successful songwriters within and outside of your writing genre. Listen to their respective works throughout their careers. Write down what songwriting techniques and structures they use. What makes their songs successful? How can you apply their techniques to your songwriting?

2. SO CLICHÉ
Make a list of clichés and center the bridge idea around one of your top two cliché choices.

3. GET ORGANIZED
Do you have a build-up of unfinished ideas, jotted down phrases, or half-written works? Take your unfinished pieces and sort them into an organized way that makes it easy for you to come back to them. Categorizing them can also help you find pieces of your writings that might form to create a great song.

4. SUBMIT YOUR SONG FOR FEEDBACK AND RE-WRITE
Got a song you're just not sure about? Submit it for one of our Online Song Feedbacks or Song Feedback workshops. Re-write based on that feedback.
