August 2019 Exercises

Goal-setting usually starts a year off, but to keep your songwriting on track, we wanted to remind you of your goals in August. The beginning of Fall is upon us and it's time to get our minds on track to finishing the year strong! Here are some ideas for keeping your goals and dreams in check so that they are attainable and motivating throughout the rest of 2019:

1.       Make a time sheet. Give yourself helpful habits to keep track of and check them off one-by-one as you complete them. There is nothing like the satisfaction of checking off boxes on a to-do list!

2.       Update your vision board (or create one). You will be able to move your accomplished tasks to another side of the board or you can remove them if you have new goals to replace them. If you have never made one, search "vision boards" on the internet for some inspiration.

3.       Set small, weekly goals and check in with yourself every Sunday to track your progress. Write these out as written goals solidify the need to accomplish them much more than passing thoughts.

4.       Reach out to one contact in the music industry a week. This can be a co-writer, a friend who is interning at a studio or an industry contact you have met through networking in your hometown or in Nashville. Sometimes, local radio personalities, music teachers and music companies in your hometown can offer the best advice on starting exactly where you are at.

5.       Keep up with everything you accomplish! Of course, you need to have your written, not-yet-accomplished goals but you definitely need a place to store all of your accomplishments thus far. Seeing how far you have come can be the biggest motivator to continue on your hustling path.
