SONGWRITER NOMINATION FORM

NOMINATIONS OPEN THROUGH 11:59PM EST DECEMBER 5, 2018

Now that the Music Modernization Act is law, a new digital music licensing entity will be designated called the Music Licensing Collective (MLC). The MLC will be tasked with the licensing and collection of digital mechanicals beginning in January 2021. By statute, there will be songwriter representatives on the Board of Directors of the Collective as well as the Unclaimed Funds Committee and Dispute Resolution Committee. A selection committee of 10 songwriters (2 each representing the following organizations: American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP), Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI), Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), Songwriter’s Guild of America (SGA), Songwriters of North America (SONA)) has been formed to review nominations and ultimately select the songwriters for service to the original Board and Committees of the Music Licensing Collective that this group will submit to the US Copyright Office. Please review the below information regarding each position before completing the form.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS: Service on the MLC Board of Directors requires that an individual be a professional songwriter who currently controls his/her own publishing and is eligible to receive mechanical royalties from United States streaming revenue. Selection Committee members may not be considered. Four (4) self-published songwriters will be chosen for this task.

UNCLAIMED FUNDS COMMITTEE: Service on the MLC Unclaimed Funds Committee requires that an individual be a professional songwriter and is eligible to receive mechanical royalties from United States streaming revenue. Selection Committee members may not be considered. Five (5) songwriters will be chosen for this task.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION COMMITTEE: Service on the MLC Dispute Resolution Committee requires that an individual be a professional songwriter and is eligible to receive mechanical royalties from United States streaming revenue. Selection Committee members may not be considered. Three (3) songwriters will be chosen for this service.
