November 2019 Exercises

This month's theme is "Demo Process." This can be a lot of things for a lot of people. Though there are numerous routes to take when recording a demo, here are some common exercises to work through while you are deciding what and when to make moves.

1.       Cowrite a song. Great, now that's done and you probably have a vocal note on your phone or your computer. Now it's time to see if you really like the song or if you are just really glad you finished a song. Give it a day. Give it 5. Do you still feel chill bumps when you make it to the bridge? Now, go get some feedback!

2.       Use your evaluation credits at NSAI. There is a good chance the feedback you will receive will spark new ideas for your music. You get 12 credits for song evaluations in your NSAI membership. Be sure to use all of them!

3.       Member Directory! As an NSAI member, you are able to take advantage of our member directory on www.nashvillesongwriters.com. This is an open portal with filter abilities to find your perfect cowriter. You can input genre, style and instrument specifications you are hoping to find in a cowriter.

4.       Do your research! Look up competitive pricing, options and formats before deciding on one type of demo. The more you know, the more you can take advantage of great deals and demo processes!
