Scot Sherrod and Suzanne Strickland launched RareSpark Media Group, LLC on April 9, 2012. As vice president and general manager, Sherrod oversees and directs all aspects of the company, in addition to signing and developing musical talent for the entertainment industry. Having grown up in a musical family, Sherrod’s passion for the music and entertainment industry was fostered from a young age, and he started playing in bands of his own at the age of 10. After earning a B.S. in music and recording arts from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, he began his career as a mastering and freelance audio engineer in North Carolina, working on a variety of music, film and TV projects.
Sherrod moved to Nashville in 1996 and joined Muy Bueno Music Group as catalogue and creative manager, where he managed and pitched the entire catalogue and was involved in attaining such cuts as George Strait’s No. 1 single “Write This Down” and title track, “One Step At A Time.” In 1998, he was tapped as catalogue manager for Major Bob Music, Inc. and
worked his way up to senior creative director, supervising all creative aspects of the company. Some of the highest-grossing songs recorded during Sherrod’s tenure at Major Bob Music include Kenny Chesney’s “I Lost It” and “There Goes My Life,” the Dixie Chicks’ “A Home,” Rascal Flatts’ “I Melt,” “Fast Cars and Freedom,” “Take Me There,” and “He Ain’t The Leaving Kind;” Carrie Underwood’s “Life Goes On,” and Montgomery Gentry’s “Some People Change.” Sherrod was also instrumental in pitching the history-making song, “More Than A Memory” (Curb Music Publishing), to Garth Brooks while at Major Bob. On the sync side, Sherrod has collaborated on, represented or created music for Columbia Pictures’ Zombieland and Bounty Hunter theatrical trailers, Century Fox’s Knight and Day theatrical trailer, Paramount Pictures’ The Last Airbender television/internet trailer, a motion picture placement in Warner Brothers Pictures’ Green Lantern, and a national Volvo spot, among others.
“I feel so lucky to be able to work with some of the best songwriters artists in the world,” says Sherrod. “Every day, I get to experience and be a part of creating some of the best music with some of the most amazingly talented people in the industry - especially our current roster of talent at RareSpark that includes Jason Afable, Victoria Banks, Park Chisolm, Walker Hayes, and Brian Layson. I am so proud and thankful to be working at the helm of RareSpark with Suzanne and to have such a driven and talented team as we continue growing the company into one of the top up-and-coming independent publishing and management companies in Nashville.”
