BIG NEWS!! The Piedmont-Triad NSAI Chapter is back and ready for action! We are re-launching with a new coordinator, new locations, and new meetings, but with the same mission of bringing quality songwriting education and songwriter fellowship to the Triad!
NEW COORDINATOR
First, we are happy to announce that Tom Troyer will be joining Chris Smith on the Triad Coordination Team! Tom is an amazing songwriter, musician, artist, producer, and advocate, and he will be an amazing asset to our Chapter. We have included more information about Tom below.
NEW LOCATIONS
Tom will be heading up chapter efforts in the Greensboro area! Going forward, the goal is to have monthly meetings at The Back Table in Greensboro. This is a big expansion for us, but we think it will be an amazing move for so many, and we are excited to see how Tom helps mold and shape the chapter’s presence there. The Back Table is located at 816 S Elm St #1A, Greensboro, NC, 27406. There’s plenty of parking there!
Winston-Salem will also continue to have chapter meetings quarterly, with hopes to increase as soon as a permanent meeting location is identified. In the near term, meetings will be held in the auditorium of the Forsyth County Reynolda Branch Library, The Reynolda Branch Library is located at 2839 Fairlawn Dr NW, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
NEW MEETINGS
TUESDAY, MAY 27TH - Kicking things off, we have two upcoming meetings. First, in an effort to give our members an opportunity to submit to the NSAI Chapter Challenge that closes at the end of the month, we will be hosting a meeting on Tuesday, May 27th, from 6-8 pm at the Reynolda Branch Library. I apologize for the short notice on this, but we have to have winners submitted by the end of the month, so I wanted to give members the opportunity to submit. Many of you are familiar with this annual songwriting competition, but for those who aren’t, we will include more information below. After this meeting concludes, several of us will be going across the street to Cookout for food and ice cream.
TUESDAY, JUNE 3RD - This will be our OFFICIAL RELAUNCH event. It will be a social gathering on Tuesday, June 3rd, from 6-8 at The Back Table in Greensboro and is open to everyone! The cafe will be serving great beverages, and the open mic stage will be live for those wanting to play! Come on out, bring a friend, see the new space, meet some new people, and learn more about what we have in store for the future.
GOING FORWARD
Both are subject to change, but for now, pencil in the FIRST TUESDAY of the month from 6-8 at The Back Table for MONTHLY GREENSBORO NSAI meetings going forward!
Pencil in the THIRD TUESDAY of the month from 6-8 for QUARTERLY WINSTON-SALEM NSAI meetings.
The goal is to release a full year's schedule, complete with topics and events, in the very near future that will highlight specific dates for quarterly meetings. So stay tuned!
THE NSAI CHAPTER CHALLENGE
The 2025 NSAI Chapter Challenge is underway through the end of May. In this challenge, NSAI members in Local Chapters across the globe have an opportunity to submit 1 (one) pre-recorded song at their local Chapter meeting (SUBMISSION LINK BELOW)! Members will listen to all the songs submitted. After the last song is played, fellow members will vote on the song they think should make it to Round 2 of the Chapter Challenge, and the winner will advance to the next round.
In Round 2, NSAI has an appointed committee that will listen to all song submissions from Members who were selected by their Chapter as the winner. The committee will then vote and select the top 20 submissions.
The top 20 submissions will receive in-depth song feedback by a pro writer & the NSAI Team, exclusive online pitch with a Music Row publisher, recognition on NSAI socials, and featured on the Top 20 playlist on the NSAI website.
The grand prize winner will receive:
- A curated Nashville, Music Row experience that includes 2-night accommodations and a round-trip flight on Southwest Airlines to Nashville, a meeting with a music row publisher, lunch with NSAI staff, a guided tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum, and more!
To participate in submission and voting, you must be a current NSAI member and “affiliated” with a Chapter where you wish to attend and submit for the Chapter’s April or May meeting. More information about challenge rules and how to affiliate can be found HERE.
SUBMISSIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED THE NIGHT BEFORE THE MEETING - THAT’S MONDAY, MAY 26TH, AT MIDNIGHT. Further, if you’re planning to submit, it would be best to reply to this email as soon as possible, letting us know so we can put it on our radar and ensure your entry gets in without issue before the deadline! You don’t have to be ready to submit when you apply, just give us a heads up that you intend to. This also helps us get things like the voting straw poll prepared in advance.

JOINING NSAI
For those interested in submitting but not currently a member, our chapter is offering $25 off an annual membership. To take advantage of this deal, click “Join NSAI” on the NSAI website. When prompted with “How did you hear about NSAI?”, select our chapter name from the drop-down menu (NOTE: It may still be showing as the “Winston-Salem” chapter instead of the Piedmont Triad chapter). Fill in your information, but before completing your payment, provide the Discount Code CHAPTER25. It’s that easy!
IN CONCLUSION
We look forward to seeing everyone in the very near future. It’s been too long. Moving forward, we will be changing programming and standard operating procedures for the better, but when the dust settles, we hope these positive changes result in more options and opportunities for songwriter fellowship in the triad!
Additionally, these will be getting their own little refresh and relaunch soon too, but you can also follow us on Facebook on our official NSAI WSPT Chapter Facebook Page and in our NSAI WSPT Chapter Facebook Group. Most information will come via email or the NSAI portal, though. BTW, there’s an updated NSAI website. Check it out if you haven’t yet, and make sure your account is affiliated with our chapter if you’re a member! See you soon!
