CO-WRITING WORKSHOP ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20

Monday, February 10, 2020 - 4:19am

Greetings, Songwriters!
We'll be meeting on Thursday, February 20, for a co-writing workshop. There's no better way to build your songwriting and people skills than working with other songwriters to create a song. Lasting collaborative relationships and completed songs have resulted from past co-writing workshops, but whatever the result, you'll learn and benefit from the experience!

CO-WRITING WORKSHOP
Thursday, February 20, 2020, 7 - 10 PM
Messiah United Methodist Church
527 Ridge Pike
Lafayette Hill PA 19444 (Parking in back)

CANCELLED - Thursday, January 23, 2020 Workshop -- Philly Chapter hosting WRITERS NIGHT on Friday January 24

Thursday, December 19, 2019 - 5:22pm

Our apologiesfor the late notice, but we had to cancel our January meeting because of an unforeseen circumstance with our meeting site. We will meet again on Thursday, February 20.

For January, the Philly Chapter is hosting our first WRITERS NIGHT at a popular a area singer-songwriter venue (which has been sold out). Our plan is to make this an ongoing performance opportunity for NSAI songwriters, any chapter. If you plan to be in the Philadelphia PA area, or live within driving distance, you can be considered as a featured performer for a future Writers Night.

Songwriters must be active and experienced performance artists, with bio information and music available online.

For information on the January 24 WRITERS Night and venue, visit the venue website at: www.thelivingroomat35east.com

In addition to this being a great performance opportunity for songwriters, it promotes NSAI's mission, recruits potential new members and achieves goodwill and recognition within our community.

Thursday, November 21, 7-10 PM Philadelphia Chapter Workshop

Monday, October 14, 2019 - 4:26pm

Topic: Writing for Americana & Indie Genres
THURSDAY, November 21, 2019
7-10 pm
MESSIAH METHODIST CHURCH
527 RIDGE AVE
LAFAYETTE HILL, PA

Americana and Independent (Indie) writers have the most freedom of any genre to make their music what THEY want it to be. These genres are making a LOT of headway in Nashville and all over the country these days, and crossover genres are some of the most powerful and successful realms of music out there right now. Independent artists and songwriters have more work cut out for them as they do not often have the financial backing of publishing companies or record labels. This can be tough, but often VERY rewarding. Independent artists and songwriters make their own rules and often have more out-of-the-box opportunities to showcase their work.

We also have exercises for writing in the Americana/Folk realm.

June 20 Workshop - Writing for Country

Wednesday, June 12, 2019 - 11:54am

WRITING FOR COUNTRY
Thursday, June 20, 2019, 7 - 10 PM
Messiah United Methodist Church
527 Ridge Pike
Lafayette Hill PA 19444 (Parking in back)

Hit songs become classics because listeners and fans are craving something they haven't experienced yet.
Even if you're not a country writer (or artist) your songwriting will benefit by using exercises offered at this discussion on how to write for the country genre, where you'll learn a few tips on how to follow your strongest creative notions.

Following the discussion will be song evaluations.
Please bring 6 lyric sheets. You can perform live (bring guitar), play MP3, or CD.

RSVPs appreciated by reply e-mail if you plan to attend. Non-members, guests welcome!

LOOKING AHEAD for SUMMER AND FALL 2019
At this meeting we'll look at ideas for:
*A regular venue space for open mics, writers nights, and showcases (and possibly meetings);
*Gathering for a guitar "pull" summer party where we'll enjoy each other's company while eating and playing our songs; and
*Offering a "pro" workshop in September or October

MAY 16 Workshop - Writing for Sync (and other chapter news)

Sunday, May 5, 2019 - 11:59pm

Greetings, Songwriters!
We're meeting again on Thursday, May 16, 7-10 PM. Our discussion topic is "Writing for Sync", followed by song evaluations. Details follow:

WRITING FOR SYNC
Thursday, May 16, 2019, 7 - 10 PM
Messiah United Methodist Church
527 Ridge Pike
Lafayette Hill PA 19444 (Parking in back)

Sync - music for television and film - is a whole different world of songwriting. Writing for tv and film deserves a completely different mindset (most of the time) than writing in a specific genre. We'll watch videos from NSAI that offer advice for sync placement, and look at exercises that can be done for honing sync-writing skills.

Following the discussion will be song evaluations. Please bring 6 lyric sheets. You can perform live, play MP3, or CD.

RSVPs appreciated by reply e-mail if you plan to attend. Non-members, guests welcome!

OLE Chapter Challenge on Tuesday, April 23 ... NSAI songwriters perform at local ThriveFest Earth Day Weekend

Tuesday, April 16, 2019 - 12:25pm

This is an opportunity for NSAI members to pitch a song to Nashville publisher Ole (pronounced O-lay), giving all NSAI members a chance to be considered for a single song contract.

Non-members are welcome to attend, however, won't qualify to submit a song. Please consider joining or renewing your membership if you've been attending our meetings and would like to submit a song. (FYI, monthly payment options are offered if you want to spread out membership payment).

At the meeting, we will listen to all song submissions, and vote for our favorite. The winning song will then be submitted to the NSAI listening committee in Nashville, who will narrow down submissions from all chapters and submit to Ole Publishing. HAVE AN MP3 (or CD) to submit your song. No live performances. It can be a guitar (or keyboard) / vocal.

Co-Writing Workshop on Thursday, March 21, 2019, 7-10PM

Friday, March 8, 2019 - 5:30pm

Greetings NSAI Philly Songwriters!

We'll be meeting again the second day of Spring, Thursday, March 21, 2019, when hopefully this deep freeze Polar vortex weather will be back in the Arctic. Our "vernal equinox-full moon" gathering of songwriters will be an auspicious evening for all as we dive deeply into the process of co-writing. Here are details:

Thursday, March 21, 2019
7 - 10 PM
Co-Writing Workshop
Messiah United Methodist Church
527 Ridge Pike
Lafayette Hill PA 19444 (Parking around back)

This month we talk all about co-writing and knowing your role in the writing room!

Cowriting is a lot like dating in the way that one must be vulnerable to cowrite. Sharing experiences with people who are barely more than strangers can be scary, but practicing first with a friend may get rid of the nerves that come with cowriting. That's where your NSAI chapter steps in. We'll be practicing co-writing in a "safe space" with each other, breaking into small groups (depending on attendance). There is no better way than to expand your songwriting skills and learn.
